An alcoholic facing his ninth drink driving offence has had his sentencing rescheduled so he has time to get his life in order, after his mother's death

Kuresa Alvy Anderson's latest offence is for trying to drive off in an Auckland Transport bus, drunk, while his friends chased the driver down the street.

He appeared in Auckland District Court last week for sentencing after having pleaded guilty.

He was also initially charged with driving a stolen vehicle - the bus - but the charge was withdrawn after he agreed to plead guilty to the two lesser charges.

Sentencing will now take place in April.
