A man's been charged over a head-on crash between a fleeing driver and a member of the public near Waikato's Pokeno on Saturday

3 March 2025

Police say the fleeing driver attempted to avoid spikes laid across State Highway Two and swerved into the oncoming car.

Both drivers were seriously injured.

A 42-year-old man's appeared in Auckland District Court today on charges of dangerous driving, and driving disqualified.

Police say there'll be multiple investigations - including by the Police watchdog, and a review of policy, practice, and procedure.
