A sexual predator who groomed a 13-year-old on Snapchat then raped her was on bail awaiting trial at the time for similar offending

23-year-old Raveen Saily was sentenced last December to just over nine years in prison after he groomed a 16-year-old on the same app, and raped her in 2021.

He committed the similar offences in Rotorua three months before his trial - despite being banned from the Internet.

It took more than two years for his trial to be heard in Tauranga.

Sexual abuse victims advocate Louise Nicholas says the Rotorua offending wouldn't have happened if there wasn't such a long delay.

    He'll be sentenced in December.
