Gaza updates: Israelis and Palestinians celebrate agreement on first phase of peace proposal — as it happened

US President Donald Trump says Israel and the militant group Hamas have signed off on the first phase of a Gaza peace proposal that would see a pause in fighting and the release of at least some hostages and prisoners.

Mediators say Israel and Hamas have signed off on the first phase of the US-proposed Gaza peace deal that would see a pause in fighting and the release of at least some hostages and prisoners.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on social media: "With God's help we will bring them all home."

Hamas said it had agreed to a deal that would lead to the end of the war in Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the entry of aid into Gaza.

Look back at how Thursday's events unfolded below.
