An Auckland man has pleaded not guilty to charges laid over allegedly threatening emails sent to the Prime Minister

Police accuse Michael Cruickshank of sending three emails in particular, intending to harass Jacinda Ardern and cause her to fear for her and her family's safety.

They allege the 54 year old sent Ardern another 89 emails between October 17 last year and January 19 this year.

Cruickshank has been remanded on bail until his next appearance in the North Shore District Court in July.
