Teachers are calling for more information - at a proposal to shorten the summer school holidays
28 January 2019
National MP Nichola Willis is floating the idea of reducing summer holidays from six weeks, to just four or five.
She says shortening the break would reduce the burden on working parents.
Christchurch's Whitau School principal, Sandra Smith, agrees.
But she says there are a lot of implications - and children's learning must be put first.
Smith says children need holidays at time they can get outside and play.
Hororata Primary School principal, Marty Gameson , is concerned at how kids would last - saying they're usually exhausted by Easter.
