Auckland's Orewa College says it may have to roster year groups home for online learning, due to staffing shortages

Auckland's Orewa College says it may have to roster year groups home for online learning, due to staffing shortages

Principal Wiri Warriner says they've observed a recent surge in teacher absences -- compounding challenges in maintaining consistent coverage.

They've combined senior classes, are using libraries and the hall to teach multiple classes, and allow Year 13's to work independently at times.

The Education Ministry says every winter schools experience more sick days.

It says schools across the country are facing staffing issues and being unable to fill roles at short notice with relief teachers.
