A Dunedin bottle store in the city's student quarter could be forced to shut earlier

A Dunedin bottle store in the city's student quarter could be forced to shut earlier

Dunedin City Council's district licensing committee will consider whether Leith Liquorland should close at 9pm, instead of 10pm - to reduce the risk of alcohol-fuelled violence.

An off-licence renewal application has been opposed by the medical officer of health delegate.

A report by the delegate says extending trading hours beyond 9pm in North Dunedin can exacerbate existing problems around binge drinking and public disturbances.
