Students are being urged to make sure their backpacks aren't too heavy

An Otago University study has found the average Otago teen carries more than five kilograms to school.
Another 10 percent lug an additional bag tipping the scales at two kilos.
Canterbury West Coast Secondary Principals' Association president Phil Holstein says it's good to make schools aware of the issue.
He says most schools do offer the option of having a locker.
