A man who broke into a Dunedin student flat and violated a young woman can now be named

Keith Andrew Wicks-Cairns has admitted to a burglary charge and two counts of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.

But the ODT reports the 36-year-old is maintaining not-guilty please on charges of rape and strangulation.

The allegations relate to the same complainant.

It's understood a young woman woke to a masked man in her bedroom with his hand over her mouth in February.

Wicks-Cairns allegedly made the woman wash her hands before he left.

He's been remanded in custody and a trial date's set for March.
