The ducks had to be put down after eating wheat treated with a pest control poison that stupefies birds.
Fish and Game Officer John Dyer says it could kill a cat or dog.
He says if any owner suspects their pet was poisoned, they should keep it warm and take it to the vet.
Alphachloralose can only be legally used on such pest birds as sparrows, pigeons and blackbirds.
