A financial review of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council - has lead to it consulting on selling some of its stake in Port of Tauranga

A financial review of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council - has lead to it consulting on selling some of its stake in Port of Tauranga

The council owns a 54-percent stake in the port - valued around two billion dollars.

It intends to keep at least 28-percent.

Council Chair Doug Leeder says it would create an endowment fund - saying ratepayers are under the pump.

A decision will be made next June.
