A quiet first day at Mt Hutt ski fields, as the operators wait for more powder to form

The Remarkables, Coronet Peak, and Cardrona have also officially begun their seasons; Whakapapa and Turoa began operations last week.

Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager James McKenzie, says they've mostly relied on man-made snow for today.

He says a couple hundred people have shown up.

McKenzie says they'll be able to make more snow tonight, but the natural snowfall has been pretty minimal.
