Auckland Police will be getting a new boat to keep an eye on the waters

Auckland Police will be getting a new boat to keep an eye on the waters

Deodar three has been operating for the past 17 years but it's set to replaced by an upgraded model.

It's replacement, Deodar four, will start being built from January next year and will be ready for sea trials by the end of 2026.

Auckland Police Maritime Unit head Garry Larsen says the boat will help with a variety of tasks.

He says it can attend crime scenes, help with medical emergencies and help track down offenders.
