Prepare for the worst when heading to the great outdoors

Prepare for the worst when heading to the great outdoors

Five people were helped in three separate rescues on Mount Taranaki on Saturday.

One person had hypothermia and another fell 250 metres,

The Mountain Safety Council says it's best to pack for an unplanned overnight halt, with warm clothes, food, water, and a distress beacon.

Spokesperson Bianca Bratton, says it's also important to know the track, including learning the intended route, decision making points, and having the skills and gear to undertake it safely.
