There are renewed calls for stricter regulation of employment advocates

There are renewed calls for stricter regulation of employment advocates

Advocates are able to represent clients in the Employment Court without being registered or qualified as lawyers.

But a judge has described a recent run-in one one advocate as abusive and unprofessional.

Law Association Employment Law Committee Convenor Catherine Stewart says people tend to get mixed up between "employment law experts" and "employment lawyers".

She says this leads to a lot of misunderstanding, confusion and distress.
