Farm dog owners should treat their animals for sheep measles

Farm dog owners should treat their animals for sheep measles

They can carry the Taenia Ovis tapeworm responsible for the infection.

As of last month, 1.38 percent of lamb throughout the country was recorded as being infected, compared to 1.13 percent last year.

Ovis Management Programme manager Michelle Simpson it's critical to ensure all dogs on farms are dosed regularly with the required treatments.

She says a dog can easily eat viable raw meat from a sheep and get the tapeworm where the cycle begins.
