The ship grounded near Picton with 47 on board, and was re-floated a day later.

Maritime New Zealand's filed two charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

KiwiRail says its investigation, produced nine recommendations -- and it's already carried out seven.

Aratere is retiring from service in August to allow upgrades to port infrastructure, for new ferries coming in 2029.
