Millie Bobby Brown has become a "target" for bullying since her days of child stardom

The 21-year-old actress became known around the world when she was cast in 'Stranger Things' at the age of 11, and cannot understand why fans think she is meant to be "frozen in time" a decade later

Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: "I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can't seem to grow with me.

"Instead, they act like I'm supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on 'Stranger Things' season one. And because I don't, I'm now a target."

The 'Electric State' star then insisted that she will refuse to bow down to the "unrealistic expectations" of people around the world who cannot deal with the notion that she is growing up and refused to be "shamed" by others for how she chooses to look.

She added: "I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can't handle seeing a girl become a woman.

"I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself.

"If you have a problem with that, I have to wonder...what is it that actually makes you so uncomfortable?"

Millie concluded her video by begging others to "do better" for herself and for anyone like her who might find themselves trying to grow up in the spotlight amid intense scrutiny.

She added: "Let's do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing."
