Sherri Shepherd ended up in jail because of her belief the world was about to end

The Less Than Perfect star's conviction that the Rapture was on its way saw her run into trouble because she stopped paying her bills, taxes, and fines because she couldn't see the point in handing over her money.

Speaking on her talk show Sherri on Wednesday (24.09.25), the 58-year-old actress - whose parents were Jehovah's Witnesses - said: "I used to be in a religion that told me that the rapture was coming.

"They told us to get our house in order. And I said, 'Why? I'm not going to need a house where I am going. I don't need those worldly possessions.'

"I didn't pay my bills. I didn't pay my taxes. I did not pay my traffic tickets because why would I pay anything when the world's about to end?

"My registration had been expired for two years. I had seriously $10,000 worth of unpaid moving violations."

Sherri didn't even bother going to court when she received traffic infractions.

She said: "Why would I show up to court when the world is about to end and I'm about to get taken up to heaven?

"Jesus don't care about no parking tickets!"

The former 30 Rock star's belief eventually saw her picked up by police.

As a photo of her wearing a psychedelic multicoloured shirt and matching shoes appeared on screen, she said: "The world never ended. I went to jail.

"And you can tell I was not expecting to go to jail 'cause when the police pulled me over, I was wearing this.

"I was on my way to perform at the Comedy Store in Hollywood and I didn't know, so they picked me up," she said. "I went to jail for eight days and because I fell for the Rapture, I became a hardened criminal."

Sherri's comments came following a viral claim from Joshua Mhlakela that Jesus came to him in a dream to tell him the Rapture would happen on Tuesday (23.09.25).

She said: "Everybody on TikTok started spreading the word that the rapture was coming yesterday.

"I believe in the rapture. I believe it was coming. But this one, I didn't fall for the okeydoke. Because I have been through this before."
