Rose Byrne plans to name her bearded dragon in honour of her Oscar nomination

The 46-year-old actress won the Golden Globe award for Best Female Actor in a Musical or Comedy thanks to her role in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and during her acceptance speech, she explained her partner Bobby Cannavale - with whom she has sons Rocco, nine, and Rafael, eight - wasn't there because he was picking up a new family pet.

And now, after being nominated for her first ever Academy Award for her work on the same movie, Rose is contemplating naming the creature to mark the milestone.

Asked about the bearded dragon when she called Today to celebrate her Oscar nomination, she said: "He's so sweet. He's so sweet.

"We're all smitten. The kids are happy, such a sweetie."

And after revealing he didn't yet have a name, co-host Jenna Bush Hager suggested: "Well, maybe you can name him Oscar."

    Rose replied: "Perfect, done!"

The Australian actress "can't believe" she has been shortlisted for the Best Actress prize alongside Jessie Buckley (Hamnet) Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value) and Emma Stone (Bugonia).

She said: "The women are incredible in this category. I feel like I'm the naughty kid that snuck in the back of the bus. I can't believe it."

While Bobby missed the Golden Globe awards, Rose confirmed he'll be at the Oscars.

She told The Hollywood Reporter: "Absolutely! It's the middle of the night in Australia, and he called me. So cute."

Although Rose has been nominated for a number of awards for If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, she admitted the Oscar nomination means a lot.

She said: "The thought of the legacy and the pageantry and the scale of it, it's impossible to not have that value.

"All of these sort of experiences we've had, and acknowledgements and recognition that we've had, it definitely feels like a monumental moment to have this acknowledgement. Of course, that huge kind of legacy and tradition of this ceremony is just undeniable, so to be a small part of that is unbelievable.

"I love the Oscars. [When I was a] little girl from Sydney, Australia, I used to watch [the show]. The pageantry of it is so fun and theatrical."

The Bridesmaids star sparked laughter at the Golden Globes when she explained why Bobby wasn't there.

She ended her speech by saying: "I want to thank my husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn't be here because we are getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey."
