Mel B has a Spice Girls-themed shed where she loves to sit in silence with the animals on her farm

The 49-year-old pop star attained global fame in the late 1990s alongside Geri Halliwell, Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham as part of the world's best-selling girl group but now enjoys a life in the English countryside complete with nods to her pop music heyday

Speaking on the 'Mad, Sad and Bad' podcast, she told host Paloma Faith: "I go up to the field and I spend all day with my chickens and my goats, and I've got this little shed that I've got a Union Jack and leopard print on.

"And I just sit there and I stare at my animals and be by myself, and I love it.

"There's always been a bit of that in me, because I like the silence and the stillness. Because when I'm out and about, I'm like this, so you can't be like this all the time ... I'll just pretend I've lost my phone. I'll go and sit with the animals for hours."

The Spice Girls were formed through an open audition in 1994 and were initially known as Touch, before going through a couple of lineup changes, choosing a different name, and breaking away from their original management.

During her time with the 'Wannabe' hitmakers, Mel became known for her love of leopard print and bandmate Geri famously wore a Union Jack dress to open the BRIT Awards in 1997.

When asked how she coped with that sort of fame that came with being part of the Spice Girls, Mel admitted that they were all just "having a right laugh" at the time.

She said: "You've got five girls from all different walks of life that are writing their own music. I was doing all the choreography, dressing how we wanted to dress. So for us we were just having a right laugh. It was like, oh god, look at what we were doing, it's all girl power."
