Steve Guttenberg has filed for a divorce from his wife Emily

The 66-year-old actor - who is best known for playing Carey Mahoney in the 'Police Academy' film franchise - filed for divorce in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles on Friday (04.04.25)

The actor cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for their separation and has agreed to pay spousal support to his estranged wife, People reports.

The former couple - who tied the knot in 2019 - had a prenuptial agreement in place, and that will mandate the allocation of "additional separate property and obligations of each party".

The court filing has also confirmed that Steve has requested that he and his wife both pay attorneys' fees and other costs.

The former couple tied the knot in Malibu in January 2019, after meeting on a blind date in 2014.

Emily announced their engagement via a Facebook post in 2016, when she posted a photo of Steve proposing to her. Emily captioned the image: "Yes, yes, yes."

Steve heaped praise on Emily in an interview in 2017, describing the actress as "the real deal" and a "very classy lady".

The movie star also suggested that Emily had made him "a better person".

Steve - who was also married to actress Denise Bixler between 1988 and 1992 - told The Daily Beast: "I don't want to give these things a jinx, but she makes me a better person which I really like. I have to up my game around her.

"She's a very classy lady. She creates a wonderful home, her value system is terrific, and her character and integrity, and sense of humour ... she's a really nice lady."

Meanwhile, Steve's home and neighbourhood were threatened by the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.

The film star revealed at the time that he had chosen to "stand and fight" amid the threat posed by the wildfires.

Steve - whose home in Pacific Palisades managed to survive the fires - told People: "At this time I have the choice of sitting down and walking or standing up and doing what I can. I choose to stand and fight. And help."
