More snow is forecast for parts of the South Island this afternoon

More snow is forecast for parts of the South Island this afternoon

Canterbury High Country remains under a heavy snow warning, until about 5 tonight.

Metservice meteorologist John Law says the worst of the cold weather is over for Otago - as snow turns to rain this afternoon.

He says more snow is expected for Canterbury, south of Rakaia River, with around 10-to-20 centimetres forecast.

State Highway 80 to Mount Cook, and State Highway 6 through the Haast Pass are closed due to the weather.
