The log train from Ernslaw's Karioi forest to Napier Port - is back on track

The log train from Ernslaw's Karioi forest to Napier Port - is back on track

It'll carry 600 tonnes of logs daily on the Napier-Palmerston North line - lifting the load from 21 logging trucks.

The deal between Ernslaw One, Kiwirail and the port follows the closure of Ruapehu District's Tangiwai Mill.

Rangitikei District Mayor, Andy Watson, says the council worried extra logging trucks would increase road wear and tear - and initiated discussions on solutions including rail.
