    Three South Island highways still remain closed, with up to half a metre of snow on the roads


    NZTA crews continue to extract stranded vehicles from Lindis Pass, so the road between Fairlie and Twizel can reopen.

    A slip at Gorge Stream on State Highway 7 is being cleared with the highway from Hanmer Springs to Springs Junction expected be opened later today.

    Work also continues to reopen State Highway 87, between Mosgiel and Kyeburn.

    Meanwhile State Highway One on Desert Road has closed, following a two vehicle crash.
