Legislation's been introduced to Parliament to crack down on boy racers and fleeing drivers

Legislation's been introduced to Parliament to crack down on boy racers and fleeing drivers

It creates new offences and penalties, including a likely sentence of vehicle destruction for anti-social drivers - and amping up police powers to manage illegal vehicle gatherings.

The Government is also increasing the infringement fee for making excessive noise from a vehicle - from 50 dollars to 300.

People failing to provide information on a driver who used their vehicle to flee police - will also face a court-ordered fine, which could stretch as high as 10-thousand dollars.

The Bill's first reading is expected next month.
