There'll be a heatwave in parts of the South Island over the next few days, with warm temperatures in the North Island too

Christchurch and Ashburton are expected to reach 32 degrees today.

MetService spokesman Paul Ngamanu says more highs of thirty degrees are expected early next week.

He says Christchurch will still be 30 or close to it on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Auckland, Northland and Waikato are expected to have temperatures in the high 20s during Auckland Anniversary weekend.
