Cyclone Gabrielle recovery efforts in Northland, could continue beyond 2030

Cyclone Gabrielle recovery efforts in Northland, could continue beyond 2030

A regional Civil Defence report finds the severe weather event serves as the region's largest emergency in a generation.

Northland was struck with record-breaking rainfall across multiple sites, towering waves and heavy gusts.

The report points to the chaotic nature of disaster recovery - with a lack of recognition for the damage inflicted.

It finds some of the recovery work will extend beyond 2030 - especially rebuilding roads - of which hundreds were impacted.
