South Island drivers are being reminded to drive to the conditions as winter weather sets in

MetService has issued a raft of watches and warnings as wind, rain and a potential heavy dump of snow heads towards the south.

NZTA is reminding drivers roads can be closed at short notice in bad weather.

Journey Manager Nicole Felts says crews will be busy gritting places which get icy, de-icing and clearing any snow as quickly as they can.
