Two main highways in South Canterbury are closed due to heavy weather

State Highway 73 over Porters Pass is closed overnight due to icy conditions from the falling snow.

Travellers are advised to keep an eye on the traffic map - as the alternative State Highway 7 route could also be affected by snow.

Meanwhile, State Highway 6 is closed from Ross to Harihari due to the risk of falling trees - from the strong winds lashing the West Coast.
