    Heavy rainfall in the southern North Island has floodgate operators on standby


    Horizons Regional Council says high rainfall in the Manawatu River catchment means it may be necessary to operate the Moutoa floodgates.

    More rain is expected overnight.

    Motorists are told to take care when driving, because floodwater can be unsafe and potentially affect homes.
