Needing a 12-point win over South Korea to get to the next stage of Tokyo qualifying, New Zealand has only managed a 69-65 victory in Auckland.

Breakers coach Dan Shamir claims he's yet to get the gist of guard Glen Rice Junior's latest off-court episode.

Rice was arrested after an incident at an Auckland bar and subsequently stood down by the ANBL for one match, an hour before the Breakers lost their seventh match of the season 88-77 to Perth.

Shamir says he was prepared for Rice to play in the lead up.

Michael Venus and partner Raven Klaasen have lost in the finale to their ATP tennis finals doubles campaign in London.

French opponents Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Venus and Klaasen each take home about $225,000.

The All Whites have lost 1-nil to Lithuania in their football friendly at Vilnius, after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Ireland on Friday during the current international window.

Kiwis fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has been recognised as the world's best international rugby league player, winning the Golden Boot award.

Ryan Fox has finished in 57th at nine-over par at the European Golf Tour's Nedbank Challenge in South Africa, 21 shots behind play-off winner Tommy Fleetwood.

That result leaves Fox 56th in the overall tour standings, meaning he misses a place in the Dubai Tour Championship season finale reserved for those in the top 50.

Milestone moments in the careers of a couple of teenage world champion cyclists on the streets of Christchurch.

Christchurch's Laurence Pithie and Cambridge's Ally Wollaston grabbed their first elite titles at the criterium national championships, to go with the rainbow jerseys they won at the junior world championships.

New Zealand A have secured a draw with England in their three-day test warm-up cricket match in Whangarei.

The hosts looked shaky early, facing an 103-run deficit, but an unbeaten 40-run ninth-wicket stand from Will Somerville and Ajaz Patel saw the match peter to a stalemate.

Auckland have opened their Ford Trophy campaign with a four-wicket win over Wellington at Eden Park outer oval.

Ben Lister took five wickets for 18 runs in the Aces' win.

Otago beat Northern Districts by 28 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method in Hamilton.

Rain has had the final say in Palmerston North, with Central Districts and Canterbury sharing the points.
