David Warner is backing teammate Usman Khawaja to handle any external pressure caused by his Palestine protests heading into day two of the Boxing Day test against Pakistan at the MCG

The opening batters put on 90 for the first wicket to help Australia reach 187 for three at the close of day one.

Khawaja's been stopped from sporting a dove symbol by the International Cricket Council on grounds he's making a political statement.

Warner has encouraged Khawaja to stand by his beliefs and get on with cricket.

Play resumes at 12.30pm.
