Former captain Suzie Bates is the obvious option, having stepped down from the role due to the workload, but it's understood it won't be her.

Anna Peterson's had success leading Auckland into the T20 finals, but isn't a regular in the team.

Wicketkeeper Katey Martin's also an option, in a similar vein to Peterson after her efforts with Otago.

That leaves the most likely candidate, allrounder and Wellington skipper, Sophie Devine.
