Wellington athlete James Preston should be Olympic-bound after breaking a Peter Snell record that has stood for 62 years

Preston has surged to the fastest-ever 800 metres run by a Kiwi, recording one minute 44 point 04 in an 800 metre event in Germany...shaving point 26 of a second off Snell's former World Record for the distance.

His selection for the Paris Games still needs to be ratified, but the time is point 66 of a second inside the Olympic qualifying mark.
