A longer contract for Phoenix football coach Giancarlo Italiano appears imminent

He's currently halfway through a two-year deal, having guided the side to their best season during his maiden year in charge.

Club general manager David Dome has told AAP Italiano will be rewarded upon return from holiday.

He first joined the Phoenix as an analyst in 2019 and has said he does not want to coach any other team in the A-League.
