A former Auckland council building inspector's been sentenced to 11 months' home detention, for accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribes

Nicholas Bright accepted free home renovations between 2018 and 2020, as well as more than 35-thousand dollars in cash.

The work included gasfitting, installing a heat pump, double-glazed windows, and a new carpet.

Bright has been given discounts for pleading guilty early.

A company director linked to the case has pleaded not guilty and will appear in Manukau District Court next week.
