Jacinda Ardern will be among mourners at the funeral for slain police officer Constable Matthew Hunt today

The 28-year-old was killed during a routine traffic stop last month, in the West Auckland suburb of Massey.

More than a thousand police staff are expected to attend the Eden Park funeral - along with Police Minister Stuart Nash and Rodney MP - and former police officer - Mark Mitchell.

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster will speak at the service, as will Sergeant Dean Taylor - who was Hunt's supervisor when he was based at the Orewa station.

His funeral, which is private but being livestreamed by the Herald with the family's blessing, starts in about an hour .
