    An Australian woman who fabricated a lie about a dying child to swindle well-wishers out of thousands of dollars has been jailed

    Simone Wright lied about having a terminally ill son at Auckland's Starship hospital -- pocketing 35-thousand dollars from Trademe sales of motorbikes, a spa bath, and other items.

    A judge-alone trial in the Christchurch District Court today found her guilty on all seven charges of obtaining by deception.

    She was sentenced to one year, five months in jail.
