Headwinds for the housing market, despite falling interest rates and rising confidence

ASB's survey finds 24 percent of respondents anticipated house prices to increase in the three months to October, compared to 13 percent last quarter.

Fifty seven percent expect lower interest rates, the most since the survey began in 1996.

Economist Kim Mundy says there's a couple of factors still knocking consumer confidence.

She says they're expecting unemployment to continue rising and there's a lot of stock on the market.
