Olivia Colman gets "excited" for Christmas in October

The 'Paddington in Peru' actress - who has two sons, aged 19 and 17, and a nine-year-old daughter with husband Ed Sinclair - admitted her family have to persuade her not to put their Christmas tree up too early or it will be past its best by 25 December

She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: "I get excited about Christmas from the beginning of October.

    "I love Christmas so much.

"I try to delay getting the Christmas tree, otherwise it looks really unhappy by Christmas.

"I'm not allowed to get it before December, certainly, because the family go, 'It's a shame when it's bald by Christmas Day.' "

The 50-year-old actress' tree is at the heart of one of her festive rituals.

She explained: "We have a thing where we always press play on 'It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas', so we decorate the tree to that music every year."

The 'Crown' actress recently admitted she never uses social media because she thinks it would leave her a "mess" if she read anything negative.

She told My Weekly magazine: "I don't do it because I think it would make me cry.

"I'd be devastated by someone being horrible.

"I think I'd be a mess if I had to deal with comments or negativity.

"I'm better off not being on it. It's just not for me.

"I think I'm happier without it.

    "I like my privacy."

Despite her career success, the 'Wicked Little Letters' actress insisted her family always come first.

She said: "My family is everything to me. I love my children so much. I love them more than anything in the world.

"As much as I love acting, I never want to miss out on their lives.

    "Nothing comes before them.

"I work to make sure we are secure, but they are always my first thought."
