    Health and safety advocates want more consistent regulations across the extractive sector


    The Government's public consultation closes tomorrow on working with materials containing crystalline silica - which can cause the deadly lung disease silicosis.

    Health and safety council - MinEx says it wants an outright ban on engineered stone because of the high exposure to workers.

    Chief Executive Wayne Scott says there must be better safeguards across the board.

    He says exposure and health monitoring is mandated for mining and quarrying but not other sectors.
