Bjorn Ulvaeus experienced "love at first sight" when he met Christina Sas but he also had "severe problems" with their age gap romance

The 79-year-old ABBA star fell for Christina - who is in her 50s - following the collapse of his 41-year marriage to his second wife, music journalist Lena Kallersjo, and the couple married last September - but Bjorn has admitted he was initially very worried about the difference in their ages

He told The Times newspaper: "It was love at first sight, at least from my side. But immediately I had severe problems with myself and the age difference.

"When a man or a woman meets someone much younger and falls in love they think: 'Am I doing the right thing?'"

However, Bjorn decided to give the romance a go and now it's not an issue for them at all.

He added: "In the end I just gave up. I decided: 'It's up to her - if she wants to live with someone older and we love each other... '

"Age doesn't come between us now - we rarely even talk about it."

When asked how love at first sight feels as he approaches 80, Bjorn replied: "Oh, well, there's this person and there's this attraction. You think: 'What is this?'

"And then, when you see it in the other person's eyes ... It's spectacular. It's fantastic. But you have to be very open, with your antennas out. You have to be adventurous and ready to take a chance."

The singer met when Christina while she was working for ABBA's label Universal in Germany.

He announce news of their wedding by sharing a series of snaps from their big day on Instagram. The caption read: "Today on the 21st of September 2024, Bjorn Ulvaeus married Christina Sas from Herning, Denmark.

"They met in Nurnberg in 2021 in connection with the release of ABBA's last album 'Voyage' and started dating in the spring of 2022.

"The wedding took place in Copenhagen in the presence of close friends and family. Sandi Toksvig, Anne Linnet and Kaya Brüel generously performed and made the evening extra special."
