A Gang Conflict Warrant is in place across Hawkes Bay, giving officers special powers to search vehicles of suspected gang members and seize weapons.
It's due to two gang-related incidents this week believed to be linked to the Mongrel Mob and Black Power.
One of the incidents - an alleged assault in Hastings left two young people fighting for their lives in hospital.
Police are also increasing their presence around Christchurch after an unsuccessful attempt to start a fire at a local gang pad on Cuffs Road.
On Tuesday police also said they were extending a Gang Conflict Warrant to cover the entire Manawatu area.
