Rachel Bilson began censoring herself after she lost a job over a raunchy comment

The Hart of Dixie star was dropped by an unnamed company after she joked she liked to be "manhandled" in the bedroom on the Woman on Top podcast in March 2023, and she admitted she was constantly questioning what she spoke about due to the fallout from the interview.

She said on the Why Won't You Date Me podcast: "I definitely felt myself like filtering a little after that. Like 'Oh my god, if I say this am I gonna lose this job? Am I gonna be judged? Shamed?'"

Rachel - who has 10-year-old daughter Briar Rose with ex-husband Hayden Christiansen - admitted she wanted to fight her firing but could understand the company's point of view too.

She said: "Did I want to fight it? Absolutely. Look, I can see both sides. When you take something out of context and you read something as a standalone comment, it can come off a certain way, sure.

"You're talking like, basically with girlfriends and you're joking around, and I said something like, 'I like to be manhandled.'

"Olivia [Allen], who cohosts Bright Ideas with me, her mom's like 83. She was like, 'I like to be manhandled!' You know? Like everyone could relate.

"But because I used that word in whatever context, they just took that out of the conversation. It didn't sound great. But I think it was a very conservative company so they weren't comfortable talking about sex at all, in general.

    "We were joking around!"

Rachel made the comment when discussing her favourite sexual positions on Women on Top.

She quipped at one point: "I've learned that if you want to have an orgasm during sex, you have to be on top. Missionary is my favourite. I want to be f****** manhandled."

But the 44-year-old star later admitted she was "baffled" to lose a job as a result and "cried" when she was told.

She said on her own Broad Ideas podcast at the time: "This is the first time it's ever happened to me in my professional life ... I lost a job this week because of things that were said and then spun in the press.

"A job got taken away from me because I was speaking candidly and openly about sex in a humorous way.

"I cried. I'm a single mom like I need these jobs ... everything counts. You know, I provide a lot for my family - my daughter - and regardless of anything else, it all matters.

"I didn't even have a chance to defend myself."
