Police say they dedicated thousands of hours in the search for Marokopa fugitive Tom Phillips before he was shot dead

Police say they dedicated thousands of hours in the search for Marokopa fugitive Tom Phillips before he was shot dead

They've revealed Defence Force and specialist units were involved in the hunt and drones flew for 111 hours over a period of two weeks in April.

Newstalk ZB's Jordan Dunn says police have also revealed why they didn't intervene on the occasions when Phillips and his children were spotted.

He says they knew Phillips was dangerous and unlikely to surrender and that any confrontation could be violent.
