A Good Samaritan who stopped to help after a woman was fatally stabbed in West Auckland has been recognised by police with a bravery award

A Good Samaritan who stopped to help after a woman was fatally stabbed in West Auckland has been recognised by police with a bravery award

Massey man Peter Simpson prevented the alleged killer fleeing, after the woman was stabbed multiple times on Westgate Drive in July.

His car was damaged in the incident and the New Zealand Police Managers' Guild Trust and Victim Support stepped in to pay for the repairs.

Waitemata Police Commander Naila Hassan says Simpson's quick actions are highly commended and greatly appreciated.
