Dave Grohl has vowed to "regain" the trust of his family after fathering a child outside of marriage

The 55-year-old musician plans to be a "loving and supportive" dad to his new baby girl - but Dave also intends to rebuild trust with his wife Jordyn Blum and their three children.

The 'Walking After You' hitmaker - who has been married to Jordyn since 2003 - wrote on Instagram: "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We're grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together."

The Foo Fighters star has three daughters - Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, ten - with Jordyn, and Dave previously admitted that they've had a huge influence on him and his songwriting.

Dave - who was married to Jennifer Youngblood between 1994 and 1997 - told TIME magazine in 2012: "It's changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes."

Dave suggested that his family have actually helped him to become "more compassionate", and the guitarist claimed that his new outlook is reflected in his songwriting.

The music icon - who was seen with Jordyn at the Wimbledon tennis championships in July - said: "You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It's inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting."
