The Government is increasing support for reading and mathematics to more schools

The Government is increasing support for reading and mathematics to more schools

All state schools will be required to teach reading using a structured literacy approach from term 1 next year.

The number of schools with access to trained structured literacy teachers will be increased from 770 to 970.

The Government is also expanding a maths acceleration trial for Year 7 and 8 students, starting next year.

The number of students taking part, who need extra maths help, will rise from two-thousand to three-thousand.
